Jennifer Lopez has hinted that her unexpected exit from 'American Idol' was down to her shift in focus, apparently she wants to get back to her film career.

Jen announced last week that she was quitting her judging role on the hit US talent show, just days after fellow panelist Steven Tyler announced his departure. There's been rumours the exit wasn't Jennifer's decision, with reports claiming she was was fired because she asked for a mammoth pay rise.

In a new interview though, Jen suggests that she decided to quit to focus on acting. According to Contact Music, Jen says:

''I do miss doing films. I feel like the last two years with 'American Idol', I've really, really focused on, you know, my music."

"It was all kind of very synergistic, it worked really well together.''

''[Movie work] is something that I really loved, it's how I kind of started in this business, and it doesn't leave you. I am an actress, I need to do that, too.''

Jen's film career was huge a few years back. After wowing critics in the tile role in 'Selena' she went on to star alongside major names like George Clooney in 'Out Of Sight' and became a romcom leading lady in films like 'Maid In Manhattan'. Her latest film project is a voice role in the latest 'Ice Age' film. It might be a little while though before we see Jen on the cinema screens again as she prepares to spend the summer and autumn on a co-headlining tour with Enrique Iglesias.
