Jennifer Lopez explains why she cried on stage during recent performance

Jennifer Lopez made headlines over the weekend when reports surfaced that the singer and actress cried on stage during her concert on Saturday, October 22 after singing about lost love to her song "Until It Beats No More."

However, Lopez explained to Extra that the song reminded her of her twin son and daughter, Max and Emme and she began to cry when she saw her mother in the audience.

"You know what it was, we wanted to do a section of the show that talked about love and through it, I go through different moments in my life," Lopez said about the concert performance. "I didn't see her [mother] the whole time, until this one moment, and I was a little bit emotional."

The section of love started when Lopez performed her first hit single "If You Had My Love."

After her performance of that song, Lopez told the audience, "I'm going to sing you the last song I wrote about love," and began singing "Until It Beats No More," a single from her recently released "Love?" album. Dancers appeared on stage that looked like Lopez's ! old flam es Ben Affleck, P. Diddy and Chris Judd.

Lopez danced with each look-a-like in scenes that re-enacted their relationships before a Marc Anthony look-a-like appeared on stage. According to the magazine, Lopez and the Marc Anthony look-a-like performed a re-enactment of the former couple's performance on "American Idol" in May, which took place a few weeks before the two announced their separation.

"I took a trip down memory lane," Lopez told the audience before she began to cry on stage. The crowd then applauded the singer.

"I'm just a regular person like everybody else. I have feelings and emotions," Lopez told Extra. "My life goes great -- and it goes not great sometimes."

"But you know what, we keep going, and that's what it is. I think they thought that's what the message was," she added. "It's a beautiful thing. Life is a beautiful thing. Love is a beautiful thing."

Lopez, 42, and Anthony, 43, announced in July that they were breaking up, but they did not specify a reason for the split. The two married in June 2004 and their twin son and daughter, Max and Emme, were born in February 2008.

Lopez has been married twice before but has no other children other than her and Anthony's twins. She and Ojani Noa were married between 1997 and 1998. Lopez wed actor and dance choreographer Cris Judd in 2001. They divorced in 2003.

The actress was recently spotted with actor Bradley Cooper but the two have not commented on the nature of their relationship.
