Jennifer Lopez on life after Marc Anthony: 'Loving myself is the key'

Jennifer Lopez has suggested that being able to love yourself is the key to a successful relationship.

The American Idol judge said that she has learnt "the biggest lesson" in love after splitting with husband Marc Anthony in July.

"'I think I've finally learnt the biggest lesson of all," she told Glamour. "You've got to love yourself first. You've got to be okay on your own before you can be okay with somebody else.

"You've got to value yourself and know that you're worth everything. And until you value yourself enough and love yourself enough to know that, you can't really have a healthy relationship."

Lopez added that she is hoping to find love outside of the public eye in order to give any fledgling romance "a chance" of success.

"'I think to give something a chance, to really get to know somebody, you want to do it out of the public eye," she said. "You know the media - they want to rush everything."

Lopez broke down in tears while singing about love at a concert last weekend.

She later explained that she had been overwhelmed to "bare a little bit of [her] thoughts" through the song, adding that her emotional outburst had been "acted out, kind of".

Lopez is said to be "casually dating" Bradley Cooper.
