Jennifer Lopez's best-reviewed films

In collaboration with Rotten Tomatoes and its parent company, Flixster, The Chronicle presents the critical consensus of Jennifer Lopez's best-reviewed films. Her latest film, "What to Expect When You're Expecting," is at Bay Area theaters. (The figure listed is the percentage of critics who have rated the film positively, based on reviews listed at rottentomatoes.com.)

Out of Sight (1998) 93%

Steven Soderbergh's intelligently crafted adaptation of the Elmore Leonard novel is witty, sexy, entertaining and features a tough, no-nonsense performance from Lopez.

2. Selena (1997) 64%

Despite a lackluster script and a tendency toward melodrama, this is an enjoyable and heartfelt biopic, in large part because of Lopez's committed performance in her breakout role.

3. Blood and Wine (1997) 61%

This noir thriller about an adulterous jewel thief and his duplicitous partner features an early Lopez performance with the same sort of smoldering verve she'd bring to later roles.

4. U Turn (1997) 59%

Oliver Stone took a noir detour with this twisty but muddled thriller, but Lopez excels as a woman embroiled in a possibly murderous love triangle.

5. An Unfinished Life (2005) 53%

This story of disjointed family members yearning for true emotional depth teeters between overtly saccharine sentiments and moments of real intimacy - though Lopez impresses in her role as a widowed single mother.

6. Shall We Dance (2004) 46%

The cast - particularly Lopez as a dance teacher - is warmly appealing, but with the loss of cultural context and addition of big-name celebrities, this American version loses the nuances of the original.

7. The Cell (2000) 45%

This movie offers disturbing, inventive visuals, but it's undermined by a middling plot that squanders a strong performance from Lopez as a child psychologist who ventures into ! the mind of a serial killer.

8. Jersey Girl (2004) 41%

This surprisingly conventional romantic comedy from Kevin Smith is warm but often overly sentimental, and Lopez's screen time essentially amounts to an extended cameo.

9. Maid in Manhattan (2002) 39%

This blandly formulaic romantic comedy collects plot points from better rags-to-riches romantic fantasies, though Lopez is appealing as a housekeeper who finds love with a wealthy politician.

10. Anaconda (1997) 39%

Though some may find its campy B-movie sensibilities fun, this film never quite overcomes the familiarity of its premise, even with the help of a solid cast that includes Lopez as an intrepid documentarian.
