Kiwi group ReQuest woo Jennifer Lopez

By Emma Jolliff

The all-New Zealand hip-hop group ReQuest has performed to a worldwide television audience of 40 million, alongside Jennifer Lopez on the final of American Idol.

They described it as surreal.

Hip-hop dancers ReQuest shared the stage with Jennifer Lopez in Los Angeles for the final of American Idol. It's a long way from their home base in Auckland.

Dancer Parris Goebel says she hopes she made her country proud.

To think that we could be dancing on there, not only dancing on there, but dancing with J-Lo, was pretty cool for us and just a dream come, she says.

Jennifer Lopez is considered one of the most powerful women in entertainment.

Goebel was already in America, choreographing four songs for Lopez for her world tour, when the pop diva asked the group to back her on Idol.

She was so down to earth, really cool and would always talk to us and be really involved as well, says Goebel.

Nancy Broadbent has two daughters in ReQuest Malaena and Colette.

She's ecstatic about their success and says she's still pinching herself today.

As a parent, it's just one of the proudest moments in my life, for sure.

So what did her daughters think about performing with J-Lo?

After all the screaming and excitement from all of the girls, every single member, they're all in awe, says Broadbent.

ReQuest was formed five years ago.

For the past three years they've been competing at the highest level, becoming world adult hip-hop champions in 2010.

Parris Goebel and five others in the troupe are now hoping to land a deal with circus performers Cirque de Soleil in Las Vegas.
